Why Use a Password Generator?

Humans are terrible at creating random passwords. We tend to use patterns, dictionary words, and predictable substitutions that attackers know to exploit. A cryptographically secure password generator uses the browser's built-in CSPRNG to create truly random passwords that are resistant to brute-force, dictionary, and rainbow table attacks.

Key Features

Cryptographically Secure

Uses crypto.getRandomValues() for true randomness, not Math.random().

Strength Meter

Visual indicator showing password strength and estimated crack time.

Configurable

Control length (4-128), character types, and exclude ambiguous characters.

Password History

Access your last 10 generated passwords without regenerating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these passwords truly random?
Yes. We use the Web Crypto API's getRandomValues() which provides cryptographically secure pseudo-random numbers, the same source used for TLS and encryption.
How long should my password be?
At minimum 12 characters. We recommend 16+ characters with all character types enabled for important accounts. For maximum security, use 24+ characters.
Is my password stored anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Passwords are never sent to any server. The history is stored only in memory and disappears when you close the tab.
What does the crack time estimate mean?
It estimates how long a brute-force attack would take assuming 1 trillion guesses per second (state-of-the-art GPU cluster). Real-world attacks are usually slower.

About the Password Generator

Weak, reused passwords are the single most common cause of account compromise. This Password Generator creates strong, random passwords using your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator, with full control over length and which character types to include. A strength meter and estimated crack time help you understand how resistant each password is to brute-force attacks.

How to use the Password Generator

  1. 1Choose your desired password length (longer is stronger).
  2. 2Select which character sets to include: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  3. 3Generate the password and review the strength meter and crack-time estimate.
  4. 4Copy the password and store it in a password manager.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated passwords truly random?

Yes. They use the Web Crypto API’s cryptographically secure random generator, not the predictable Math.random(). This is suitable for real password use.

Are my passwords stored or transmitted?

No. Passwords are generated locally in your browser and never leave your device or get logged anywhere.

How long should my password be?

For most accounts, 16 characters with a mix of character types is a strong baseline. For high-value accounts, longer is better. Always pair a strong password with a password manager and two-factor authentication.

Should I include symbols?

Including symbols increases the character pool and makes brute-force attacks harder. Some systems restrict certain symbols, so the tool lets you toggle them on or off.
